The Georgian name dates back to the time period that the First Four Monarch's of the House of Hanover (all of which were of course named George) all reigned in continuous succession between 1714 and 1830. Starting with George I, George II, George III and finally George IV.
In the UK, a Georgian Property is described as a building that has been built in a design and method typical of those built within the Georgian era. Distinctive features do vary from building to building, but most properties of this type often start with a recognisable 'Symmetrical Facade'. Standing outside, you will notice that every window and feature to the left-hand side will have been measured and designed exactly within proportion to the right, and this method and balance would have been carried on throughout the home. Often the Interior Architecture would have Venetian and Greek influences, High Ceilings and stunning tiled hallways.
Landowners at this time became 'Georgian Property Developers' and from this, terraced rows of identical homes were often built or renovated to match on the street. Some of these uniformed examples can be found in and around a number of popular streets in Lancaster.
It is also worth noting that this style of property was revived in the early 20th century and later became known as Georgian Revival Architecture.
