Feel Good Friday in Lancaster and Morecambe- Episode 9

Posted on Thursday, April 8, 2021

Hello and welcome to a bumper edition of Feel Good Friday news!  If you are looking for some feel-good news to put a smile on your face, you are in great company.  So grab your favourite cup, pop the kettle on and whilst your at it... grab another mini egg (or 3) and make yourself comfortable... As we celebrate the first easing of Lockdown restrictions, we've been busy enjoying the opportunities to be out in the warmer, brighter weather safely socialising with some of our loved ones and to add to the feel-good vibes it's been Easter weekend!

Let's start this 3 minute read in the sought after village of Hest Bank.  Families flocked to the village last weekend to participate in the village's Grand Easter Trail.  Over 50 local houses joined in the fun by displaying a letter in their front window which when combined, spell out a phrase.  Special trail maps were made available for sale from the Londis shop in exchange for a £3 donation to CancerCare with each child entrant receiving a Creme Egg in addition to a chance of winning a Giant chocolate egg!  We look forward to hearing how much has been raised!

Staying in Hest Bank and keeping with the Easter theme, there was panic in the household of Tyson Fury this weekend with Tyson's wife Paris pleading on social media for help in hunting our local area for Easter eggs!  Leaving things to last-minute the suggestions of shops came flooding in, Paris drove across Morecambe going shop to shop on Saturday night visiting convenience shops, petrol stations and luckily found some just in the nick of time.

Just round the corner from the Fury's in Bare now, where residents have been busy on the lookout after a white feathered Cockerel has been seen strutting around in various locations throughout the village!  It's been so far spotted on Princes Crescent, Happy Mount Park and village residents are unsure of who it belongs to and how it got there.  Maybe it's joined in the hunt for eggs or just fancied crossing the road?

It was announced this week that several Lancaster and Morecambe Art organisations have been supported with investment via the government's £400 million share of a 'Culture Recovery Fund'.  Set up to help industries significantly impacted by the pandemic, the area has seen The Dukes Playhouse, More Music, Highest Point Festival, Lancaster Footlights and Lancaster Castle all receive funding so far.  Great news for the future of the area's Music & Arts Industries!

And finally, we bring fantastic news in Lancaster and Morecambe of a couple of places of interest which are currently in discussions to be relaunched!  Ring O'Bells pub has been on King Street, Lancaster for a significantly long time and has one of the best yet relatively unknown beer Gardens in the city!  Tom & Phillipa Charrier have submitted plans to reopen and renovate the pub and include visitor accommodation upstairs.

In the JDG Office, we are excited to hear the news that Morecambe Promenade could be illuminated once again as discussions of a reimagined light show have thus week begun!  The attraction plans to differ significantly from the traditional illuminations which previously lit the town from 1919 to 1996.  Councillor Charlie Edwards stated, "Morecambe is the town of reinvention and we want to do that with the illuminations."  The organisers are hopeful of the event to commence Christmas 2022.

I hope you enjoyed this week's read and come and join me again next time! In the meantime... Enjoy your weekend, keep smiling and remember -"Better Days are Coming"
