Monday will go down in modern-day history as 'Freedom Day' after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the final lifting of a number of Covid 19 restrictions in England. Everybody seems to have a difference in opinion and how they feel after the last 16 months, but boy, it's been great to see our favourite local businesses back up and running this week! We really do have some fantastic hidden gems in and around the area from welcoming Country Pubs/restaurants of the Lune Valley, Gyms and Leisure facilities of Lancaster and popular cafes and boutique stores along the promenade of Morecambe Bay. You have all been missed!
It's time to virtually head on our travels now, approx. 5,844 miles East, to Tokyo, where today the 2020 Olympic Games finally get underway! We have our fingers crossed for Team GB winning Gold and most notably to Lancaster born Olympian, Polly Swann who is flying the flag once again. Swann is an elite British Rower who won a Silver Medal in Women's Eight Rowing in the 2016 games in Rio. After taking time out to complete her medical studies at the University of Edinburgh, Swann is back and in top form recently winning a European Gold medal in the Coxless pair. Go Polly and Team GB!
Another week and yet another story of community spirit next as residents of Heysham have been invited by the Heysham Neighbourhood Council to come together and help weed and generally clean up the village from 11-1 pm tomorrow, Saturday 24th July. Organised as a great opportunity to meet and make friends, participants will of course be helping maintain one of the most popular villages in our area! The Co-op is also helping to provide refreshments.
A big well done to a 3-year-old boy named Joshua who successfully chose the winning suggested name for Lancaster Police's competition in naming their new Drone. Joshua had heard the news of the tragic gas explosion in the Heysham Community earlier this year and decided he wanted to take this opportunity to remember little George, a young boy who tragically lost his life. George was a huge Paw Patrol fan and for this reason, Joshua's suggested name was ' Chase', George's favourite character. The Local Police loved this and agreed it was so thoughtful!
And finally, over in Lancaster, America today is yet another unusual annual celebration...Friday 23rd July is officially Gorgeous Granny Day! If you are or know of a Gorgeous Granny...today is their day! Maybe you are or know a Gorgeous Granny to be? Let them know and make their weekend!
So there we go! I hope you've enjoyed this week's read and if you have any feel-good news you wish to share, let me know and you may get a mention next week! In the meantime, Enjoy your weekend, keep smiling and remember -"Better Days are definitely coming"
Thanks for reading,
