First up... what a week for British Sport! So many smiles and cheers up and down the country as Gareth Southgate's England finally defeated Germany in Tuesday's Euro 2020 encounter, snatching a 2-0 win at Wembley. This is the first time England have beaten the Germans in a competition in 55 years and Southgate put to bed his penalty shootout heart ache of Euro 96! They now take on Ukraine tomorrow evening...dare we dream it could be coming home?
Heading down to SW19 now as Andy Murray this week made his return, looking to roll back the years & win Tennis' number one competion, Wimbledon! Murray (not forgetting now playing with a metal hip after a number of sporting injuries) defeated Georgia's Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round and then Germany's Oscar Otte just 48 hours later, teeing up a 3rd round tie with Canadian Denis Shapovalov today. Go Andy!!!
We have all enjoyed basking in the summer sunshine this week and with a canal that runs through Lancaster, a group of enthusiastic students took the opportunity to take an impromptu trip (in fancy dress may I add) from Aldcliffe Yard down towards Garstang equipped with canoes, dingys and lilos! They safely and slowly navigated along, dressed in wigs and costumes, looking like they were enjoying themselves and were even joined by a herd of thirsty cows who took the opportunity to cool down and find out what was going on! Did you see them? Perhaps you are one of them? Do let us know!!
Over the River Lune to Bare now as we send our congratulations to Bare's 'Seaborn Stores' for once again being included in the 'IAA Top 100 independent list in the UK and Ireland'! The IAA's (independent achievers academy) list celebrates and awards the best in independant businesses and all they do to serve and help our local communities. The list is compiled after in store assessments, a rigorous video interview and a bespoke benchmarking process. We are delighted that store manager Kelly Busby and her team's hard work in continuing to serve and support the village during the pandemic has been recognised - for this we salute you!!
Morecambe Bay's skyline looked stunning again this week, taking centre stage at dusk with a breath taking sunsets most evenings. Social media was flooded with jaw dropping images and we have to admit, we are very lucky to witness such natural beauty in our area..
Another week and more artwork has been added to Morecambe Promenade! We recently reported a few week's back about the colourful images which have appeared along the front of the now derelict FrontierLand site. The blue wooden wall which was once known as a bit of an Eye sore in the community, is now home to a colourful display created by talented local residents. There are now a staggering 48 pieces of artwork displayed with 2 more added just this week. The new pieces feature a painting of the view from the Promenade out on to the Bay and another a collage of bright, feel good images depicting various images connected to Morecambe. If you've not been to see it yet...get your self down, you may even be lucky enough to catch a stunning sun set as well!
I hope you've enjoyed this week's read and if you have any feel good news you wish to share, let me know! In the meantime... Enjoy your weekend, keep smiling and remember -"Better Days are coming"
Thanks for reading,
Graham
