Let's start by wishing a very Happy birthday to the NHS! To commemorate the occasion, signage on the Lancaster Royal Infirmary entrances were decorated with a number of balloons and banners. The Royal Lancaster Infirmary located South of Lancaster City centre remains one of the largest employers in the local area, covering a variety of locations as part of Morecambe Bay Trust. Formed on the 5th July 1948, the much loved NHS continues to offer patients and families dedicated 24/7 health care and support, overcoming challenging times such as the Covid 19 Pandemic over the last 12 months. Happy Birthday!
Wednesday was officially International Chocolate Day and I'm sure you will agree, (in moderation) chocolate is always a feel-good part of everybody's week! We are lucky to have so many independent sweet and chocolate specialists in the area such as Wallings Farm, based in Cockerham near Lancaster, Kayleigh's Creations in Bare, Morecambe Bay Sweet Shop and the Northern Chocolate Company, Morecambe to name a few.....yum!
Happy Mount Park in Morecambe (run by Lancaster City Council) has announced this week that their popular Splash Park attraction has reopened! Closed since Summer 2019, this popular attraction is always a family favourite and had sadly remained closed during the pandemic and were hoping its reopening is just in time for a heatwave! Fingers crossed!
Lytham born Henry Wilson-Stephenson recently visited Morecambe as part of his challenge to raise £1000 for the RNLI Lifeboat Charity. The 6-year-old arrived in town this week and participated in events dressed as a swashbuckling pirate and was even accompanied by a local favourite artist, 'Captain Jack Sparrow' and Sea Shanty outfit The Mizzen Crew, who performed for the first time since Lockdown was recently eased. Henry's trip to LA4 raised £150.00 for the Morecambe lifeboats and so far has raised an amazing £650 of his £1000 target for the RNLI! Arrr...!
And finally, we cannot produce a feel-good Friday blog without acknowledging our National football team's efforts this week. Gareth Southgate is just 90 minutes away from leading England to glory, after reaching their first European Championships Final with previous winners, Italy. The televised semi-final 2-1 win against Denmark was watched by a staggering 25.8 million viewers and are expecting higher numbers on Sunday! There is a definite buzz around the area with flags, banners and bunting in various corners of Lancaster. Let's hope Footballs Coming Home...COME ON ENGLAND!
I hope you've enjoyed this week's read and if you have any feel-good news you wish to share, let me know! In the meantime... Enjoy your weekend, keep smiling and remember -"Better Days are coming"
Thanks for reading,
Graham
