Feel Good Friday in Lancaster and Morecambe - Episode 20

Posted on Friday, June 25, 2021

Hello there!  Welcome to the first, official Feel Good Friday of Summer 2021.   It feels like it has arrived just in time and whatever you have planned this season, we will keep you up to date with all the latest weekly, cheerful, positive headlines from our beautiful corner of the world...

Lancaster

First up, Lancaster born comedian and star of Channel 4s '8 out of 10 cats' Jon Richardson took to Instagram this week to share a photo of him enjoying a ride on a zip wire in Lancaster's Williamson Park. With a huge smile and giving a big thumbs up, Richardson quoted American poet Robert Frost "Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in".

Richardson is the latest in a number of celebrities who have been seen in the area recently and remains proud of his roots.. Welcome Home!

Staying in Lancaster, St John's Hospice have this week announced plans to raise money for their first ever sunflower appeal with events set to take place in venues across our area. Brightly painted metal sunflowers are set to be installed (for a charity donation) at Lancaster Castle throughout August. In addition to this, pupil's from local primary schools have been hard at work colouring in sunflower pictures which will also be on display in the Hospice's local charity shops. With the predicted sunny weather, we look forward to seeing these displays this summer!

Morecambe

Local Councillors and their leaders, the Morecambe Bid team and an army of 20 volunteers assembled to clean up Morecambe this week, after numerous concerning images of the towns unkept appearance recently appearing online. The team of volunteers got together in short notice responding to Councillor Charlie Edwards rallying cry and tackled litter, fly tipping and overgrown weeds filling 60 bags of weeds along the way. There have been regular clean ups throughout lockdown and these teams have all really helped keep the town looking its best! Thank you!!!!

As we locals know, Morecambe Bay is renowned for its landscape, wildlife and nature... but this week, it was naturists that made the headlines as 60 nudists braved the chilly waters for a cross bay walk last weekend! The naked walk in the sunshine was the first organised event of its kind in the area and helped raise funds for the British Heart Foundation. Let's hope there was plenty of sun cream applied!

I hope you've enjoyed this week's read and if you have any feel good news you wish to share, let me know! In the  meantime... Enjoy your weekend, keep smiling and remember -"Better Days are coming"

Thanks for reading,
