Feel Good Friday in Lancaster and Morecambe- Episode 2

Posted on Thursday, February 11, 2021

Welcome to Week 2 of our 'Feel Good Friday' blog. This is the place where we highlight some this week's national and local news that makes us smile, warms the soul and leaves us feeling good in time for the weekend!

In the National News

For our first story, we head over to Toulon, South of France.

A traditional fishing port with a rich maritime history, Toulon is also the home to a lady known as Sister André.  Sister Andre was born Lucille Randon in 1904 and is officially Europe's oldest person.  Sadly she recently contracted Covid19 and despite showing no symptoms Sister Andre took time out for plenty of TLC and rest.  Good News!  Sister André recovered just in time to celebrate her 117th birthday.  Go, Sister!

Lancaster News

Positive news closer to home now with not only the Lancaster area's Covid 19 infection rates continue to drop below the UK average, but crime is also down 21% compared to last year too! Infection rates for Lancaster are down 38.7% compared to last week as the vaccination rollout is picking up momentum.  Keep up the great work everybody!

Morecambe News

Morecambe has been declared as Rightmove's new property hotspot.  It turns out lots of people who have been tuning in to watch The Bay have since been taking a closer look at the property prices in the area.  Searches for homes to buy in Morecambe rose by 71% in just one week, as viewers of The Bay looked to see what was for sale in the town where the show is set and filmed.  We wonder how many are serious buyers, and how many like Michelle's parents are just been nosy!

Over in Ryelands Park

Some days we all need a little reminder that no matter what kind of day you're having....everything is going to be ok.  An anonymous messenger made this their good deed for the day this week placing a number of positive messages on benches and trees with messages such as "be kind", "you are braver than you think" and "you are loved".  Up to now, nobody seems to know who is responsible.  Is it you?

Back in Lancaster

And finally, in Lancaster, a young girl called Olive has set up an online pledge to help other less fortunate children in the area.  After discussing with her mummy after tea one night, Olive decided she wanted to help and with the help of mum and social media, they managed to fundraise over a whopping £1000 in the first 3 days! Olive, you're amazing!

Do you have any feel-good Friday highlights,?  Maybe you have an event celebration or story to share.  If so let me know at Graham@jdg.co UK.  In the meantime have a great week, keep smiling and remember -"Better Days are Coming"
