We start in Morecambe where we are delighted to hear that The Strathmore Hotel is reopening its doors from June 1st! New owners Coast and Country are taking over just in time to welcome back Holiday Makers for the peak summer season. They have announced plans to bring back recent staff and recruit approx 30 staff members in total. Nearby, English Lakes Hotel owners of The Midland Hotel, Morecambe and Lancaster House Hotel, Lancaster have also announced that they are recruiting for a variety of exciting posts from front line Restaurant staff to Housekeeping.
In addition to this positive news to our local economy and Tourism Industry, Parkdean Resorts who run sites Regent Park in Morecambe and Ocean Edge in Heysham have announced that they plan to invest £70,000 in updating and extending existing facilities on their sites.
The bookings are filling up and the feel-good buzz around the area just keeps growing!
Over in Lancaster, we are delighted to hear that Lancaster based The University of Cumbria have been recently announced amongst the winners of the 2020 Educate North awards. The award was for their annual "Festival of Mental Health" event which takes place each October at the Univesity in Bowerham. The event is led by a dedicated nursing team and supported by volunteers, raising wellbeing and mental health support and awareness within the community. The event showcases a number of workshops, activities, support sessions covering bereavement, depression and mindfulness...Congratulations to you all!
Just when you thought this year's Highest Point Festival couldn't get any more exciting, organisers have announced an additional night! Music fans are in for a treat as 'Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly!', Liverpool's 'The Lightning Seeds' and Manchester legends 'James' perform under the Ashton Memorial in Williamson Park on Thursday 2nd September! I've got my ticket, have you?
And finally...Before I disappear for the weekend, I had to mention the Good Deed of the Day from our very own Cassie and Rachel! Last Saturday we witnessed a Primark shopper battle the wind and rain whilst carrying paper bags filled with fresh, newly bought clothes. The bags split leaving the lady frantically gathering her new 'threads' from off the pavement. Quick as a Flash, our dynamic duo gathered a number of unused 'bags for life' stored for safekeeping and helped the lady rescue her new purchases. Move over Batman and Robin!
I hope you enjoyed this week's read and if you have any feel-good news you wish to share, let me know!
In the meantime, Enjoy your weekend, keep smiling and remember -"Better Days are coming"
Thanks for reading,
Graham
