We start this week with Morecambe resident Gareth Sheppard who walked an outstanding 26 miles from Blackpool Tower to the Eric Morecambe statue on Thursday! It is worth noting he achieved the Feet...(I mean feat!) alone and wearing his renowned comic design 'Pow!' suit. Gareth decided to try and raise some money for Cancer Care and Morecambe Foodbank and so far raised over £600 in the process. A huge well done from all of us - we hope Gareth is resting plenty today!
Staying in Morecambe and close to the Eric Morecambe statue, Morecambe Councillors remain hopeful that plans for funding of the Frontierland site redevelopment will be passed in an upcoming meeting. The proposed plans include the creation of a permanent home for outdoor music events, funfairs and travelling circus shows, all currently used on the proposed Eden North site. There are also plans to include the recently created artwork installed along with the fencing on the Promenade. Concerns were raised that Morecambe's popular events could be lost once the Project gets underway, but hopefully, this will now not be the case...Fingers and toes crossed!
Fire Rescue teams were deployed to the Slyne with Hest area after an unsuspecting young cow was in need of rescuing from Lancaster Canal. A calf had lost its footing whilst grazing on the banks of the canal! Fire Rescue teams attended the scene and successfully rescued the young calf to dry land. Happy to say the cow suffered no injuries and carried on grazing inland under the watchful eye of its mother! What a Lucky Cow!
And finally, today is St George's Day and with the glorious weather we have had, maybe you have missed out on booking a place in one of the popular Beer Gardens in the area?
