Because we spend so much time here, we often end up collecting clutter, making our lounge look smaller than it actually is.
In many cases, an enormous difference can be made by moving around furniture, having a clear out and making your room actually feel like a lounge and not a large store-room. Try and show as much clear floor as you can. This alone can give the illusion of more space.
Try to clear the children’s toys away. I know in many homes I visit they need to stay and if this is your case, store them in tasteful storage boxes or baskets. Make sure books and CDs and neatly stacked on shelves or completely out-of-the-way. Coffee tables are a prime dumping ground for magazines, cups, ashtrays etc, so clear these away and replace them with a central display such as fruit or flowers.
Dress your sofa, if it is older, liven it up with an attractive throw. Why not invest in some new cushions. Buyers love to see co-ordination. I'm also going to suggest that you give your windows a good clean, inside and out. You'll be suprised by just how much lighter and brighter it can make your room.
On viewing days, switch on your lamps. If you can, have your fire on low. It gives a real lovely homely glow to the room. If it is a really dull day, pop on your lights, just like they do in the show houses!
Finally, to ensure that your home smells fresh and clean, open your windows, particular if you smoke or have pets. Nobody likes a smelly home!
