Lancaster is a city with history. The most famed building in Lancaster is Lancaster Castle which dates back to Roman Times and is open to the public for tours. English Heritage notes it as the North West’s most historically important monument.
Lancaster, however, is home to over 250 listed buildings. It’s what makes our city so beautiful. If you want to know more about some of these buildings - take a watch of our historic guide to Lancaster.
Lancaster is perfectly positioned and very accessible. How many cities can boast a main train line and motorway that runs alongside it? It is a very convenient location for commuters. We also have the canal that runs through the heart of our city and also the River, which in years gone by was a bustling Maritime Port.
As a city we are located just 2 miles from the M6 and for visitors there is now a handy, free park and ride directly into the city.
Lancaster is known for its culture and entertainment and hosts some big annual events in LA1 1 including Light Up Lancaster, Lancaster On Ice and the Highpoint Festival. It is home to two theatres, a cinema and there are various exhibitions at The Storey and Museum throughout the year.
It is also a foodie city with numerous restaurants, bars, gastro pubs and cafes.
Did you know, Lancaster does not have a private school? Our free Education system is renowned across the UK. Many families actually move to Lancaster because of it. Dallas Road Primary School in LA1 1 is highly regarded and is classed by parents as a first choice school.
Live in LA1 1 and you are also in the catchment area of both the Boys and Girls Grammar Schools and also Ripley St Thomas High School.
Lancaster is well noted for its open green spaces. LA1 1 has 16.3% green space compared to a regional average of just 2.4%. We have the parks, we have the Canal and Riverside walks and we have the tucked away meadows. A short stroll along the canal also brings into the open countryside.
Don’t forget the Nature Reserve and Millenium Park, which, whilst the postcode is LA1 5, it neighbours LA1 1 and is just a few minutes walk!
