The school is a Church of England Primary school although it proudly promotes it’s rich and diverse school community. The children that live in the village come from all major world faiths, different cultures and countries. They are taught to respect and understand each other.
The school has 8 classes including reception. The classes are named after trees ( Beech, Holly, Hazel ) and each class has approximately 30 children. The final year ( year 6 ) is taught by two teachers, one of which is the school deputy head. Following on from here the pupils have a choice of high schools they can attend. Some will choose to sit their exams for the grammar schools. Others feed into Ripley and Central High, whilst some of the children opt to go to Garstang Academy.
Outdoors
The school benefits from having large grounds for the children to enjoy during playtime and also features the highly regarded forest school which all children have access to during the year. The forest school is an alternative way of learning and one which we have discovered the children love as they spend time outdoors in nature. We are told it can messy in the woodland!
Sport, Pe and exercise are encouraged at this school in terms of both health and learning and what healthy competition/teamwork is all about. Sporting activities are diverse and range from football and tag rugby through to athletics, dance and gymnastics. From year 3, children have weekly swimming lessons.
As well as having an after school club, this school also holds lots of extra activities and clubs. Throughout the year, this includes cookery classes, chess clubs, drama and even Ju-Jitsu.
Schooling is important to many families. This school is a key reason why many families choose to move to this village. At the school, friendships are made, not just between the children, but also the parents. The school truly is at the heart of this community. It is also spoken fondly about by those which have attended it.
