5 Reasons to live in Galgate

Posted on Wednesday, July 1, 2020

Welcome to Galgate, one of South Lancaster’s most popular villages.  Sometimes when you live in a place, you forget what makes it special.  You start to take things for granted.   Because of this, we thought we would ask a few of the locals, what they love most about where they live…
5 Reasons to live in Galgate

No.1  The greenery

Galgate is a semi-rural village.   Whilst a first glance, it may look a little industrial as you pass through on the A6, it is, in fact,  a village which is surrounded by greenery.    Galgate centre is considered by many to be the crossroads on the A6  (where the Spar shop is located).  Travel less than 1/2 mile in any direction and you’ll find open fields and rolling countryside.    Lovely walks can be enjoyed along the country lanes.

No.2  The sense of community

Almost every local we have ever sold for as always said that Galgate has a great sense of community.  People know their neighbours.  Many families have lived in the village for years, often born and bred here.  Many have relatives that live in the village.

Galgate is a village with a heart and a centre.  The younger children go to the local primary school and the local community centre has a whole range of events and sporting activities for the young and not so young!

No.3   The Location

Galgate is easily accessible.  It is located just 3 miles south of the city.  In a car, the drive is under 15 minutes.  It is also perfectly positioned just off junction 33 of the M6 making it a great place for those people that commute further afield for work.

Galgate also neighbours the University of Lancaster.   Whilst students prefer to liver closer to the city centre, many local residents work at the University ina whole range of roles.

No.4   The amenities

Galgate has lots of amenities.  It has several shops.   There’s a doctors, a chemist, hairdressers and a beautician.  There are local garages, a cafe at the silk mill, a marina and two popular pubs which are also noted for the food.

Galgate also has excellent public transport links with buses stopping regularly on the A6.  64.4% of all homes also have access to ultrafast broadband.

No.5  The canal

The Lancaster Canal runs through Galgate.  It is a beautiful stretch of canal and offers some enjoyable and peaceful walks.  From Galgate you can walk along the canal to Garstang, or you can walk into the heart of the city.  There are also enjoyable walks to Glasson Dock.

Galgate has its own marina with moorings for 88 boats - some of these are residential moorings.
